TRW starts production of electric power steering in Brazil

According to a news release issued by PR Newswire on February 15, TRW (Tianhe) Automotive Holding Group announced that in order to meet the growing needs of the South American business, the company will begin production of the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system at the Limela plant in Brazil.

Peter Lake, executive vice president of sales development at TRW Automotive Group, said: "Electric steering technology has many advantages and is rapidly developing globally. Our company has been committed to expanding EPS's global production platform to meet the needs of local customers. For South American customers The establishment of a local production base can provide more economical energy-saving and emission reduction technologies."

In the past year and a half, TRW has installed relevant equipment for the production of mechanical gears and column power head assemblies, and plans to continue to invest in the production of electronic control devices to fully realize the local production of column-driven EPS; production capacity is expected to It can reach 400,000 units per year.

Moises Bucci, president of TRW Automotive South America, said: “Our company has been committed to introducing all high-precision TRW products to Brazil and the wider South American region. As a part of EPS localized production, we will establish an efficient and complete supply. Base, which is indispensable for improving competitiveness and improving customer service. In addition, the role of electric steering devices in environmental improvement has also been widely recognized in South America."

To accommodate all automotive models, TRW offers two EPS solutions that consume power only when power steering is needed. The first option is to install the column drive device on the steering column; the second option is the belt drive, that is, the belt force and the ball nut device are used to directly apply the boost to the frame. Compared with traditional hydraulic power steering systems, both systems can significantly improve the efficiency of vehicle energy-saving and emission reduction. This technology can save fuel 0.3-0.4L/100km, and the corresponding CO2 emission reduction can reach 7-8g/km.
