North Korea independently develops diagnostic tools for bird flu virus

North Korea’s Central News Agency reported on the 12th that North Korean researchers have newly developed a diagnostic tool for bird flu virus, which has a high degree of accuracy.
The report quoted Kim He, director of the Institute of Veterinary Research at the Korean Academy of Agricultural Sciences, as saying that this immunodiagnostic tool can detect bird flu virus antigens and antibodies with an accuracy of almost 100%. This new tool received favorable comments after being put into use by some veterinary disease prevention centers and poultry farms in North Korea. The Veterinary Research Institute is working closely with relevant departments to promote this diagnostic tool.
Jin He believes that the successful development of new tools will not only help to grasp the spread of bird flu across the country, but also enable relevant departments to take preventive measures in advance.
At present, there are still bird flu outbreaks in some countries, especially in South Korea, where there has been a serious outbreak of bird flu. In view of this situation, North Korea is taking various measures to prevent the entry of bird flu, and has set up a National Anti-epidemic Countermeasure Committee headed by Prime Minister Quan Shengxun.
North Korea had an outbreak of bird flu in March 2005 when more than 200,000 poultry were culled. In the past three years, North Korea has found no bird flu outbreak.
