Caterpillar Releases C175-20 Generator Set in China

On July 30, 2012, Caterpillar announced that the power division has expanded the product line power range to 4000KVA@50Hz by introducing a 20-cylinder C175-20 generator set . Caterpillar official said: The newly released C175-20 unit is a high-speed engine dedicated to mains power supply, continuous operation power supply, and can also be used as a backup power source for large-scale, critical power applications.

Since 2009, the C175-20 engine has been used on Caterpillar mining trucks. At the end of this year, the engine will be used on a generator set and will be available in 50Hz and 60Hz configurations. Taking the 50Hz model as an example, the rated power is 4000KVA under the standby condition, the rated power is 3600KVA under the main condition, and the rated power is 3250KVA under the continuous operating condition.

In manufacturing, the 20-cylinder engine (105.8 liters) uses many of the core components on the C175-16 engine platform. Since its introduction in 2008, these components have been widely used in various fields in the world.

Power density is a key feature of this C175-20, which provides more energy in a smaller footprint. A single 4000-KVA C175-20 unit is more than two 2000-KVA 3516B units, which means a 55% reduction in floor space. Compared to a single 4000-KVA unit, the 3612 unit can reduce land occupation by 28%.

Caterpillar officials stated that, for example, in the data center industry, the use of C175-20 units can reduce the demand for auxiliary equipment, and when it is integrated with other Caterpillar products, such as parallel cabinets, automatic transfer switches, and UPS power products The installation efficiency is more obvious. For a hospital, the higher the output of the unit, the more medical loads it can support. In addition to its application in high-power and critical power applications, the C175-20 generator set can also be "peak-climbed" to improve grid power supply quality. It can be used as a single power supply for off-site communities and as a main power supply equipment for off-site sites.

With the latest engines and units, the C175-20 unit has lower costs of ownership and operation. This is mainly achieved by extending the unit maintenance cycle. For the main model and continuous operation model, the oil replacement interval is 600 hours. For the standby model, even the option of the organic oil replacement interval of 3 years can be provided to the customer. Caterpillar officials stated that for the C175-2050Hz model, the first overhaul should be after 27,000 hours of cumulative operation.

The C175-20 generator set is expected to be put into mass production at the end of the year. Caterpillar officials said that an estimated 350 C175-20 engines are being used on large mining trucks, and five engines have been assembled into generator sets to generate electricity. With regard to the cumulative operating time of the C175-20 engine in practical applications, the official statistics of Caterpillar have exceeded 100,000 hours, and taking into account the unofficial customer operating hours, the value will be even greater.
