Bridgestone Releases "CAIS" Road State Distinguishing Technology

Bridgestone recently announced the development of a new technology that allows road conditions to be identified on the basis of the tires that are in contact with the road surface when the car is on the road, significantly improving driving safety. This technology is part of the concept known as "CAIS" (Contact Area Information Sensing), a generic term for future technologies that bring new value to tires through the collection and analysis of information on tire ground planes.

This technology can continuously determine the road surface condition when the passenger vehicle is running normally, such as a sudden change in the road surface condition caused by snowfall or the like.

This technology changes the characteristics of the tread vibration caused by the changing road conditions by digitizing the on-board analysis device and discriminates the currently running road surface into seven states, namely, dry, semi-humid, moist, mixed with snow and water.
