Production of talc

Production of talc

At present, talc- like mineral products are produced in more than 40 countries and regions around the world. In 2002, world talc mine production was estimated at 8.87 million tons, which was basically the same as in 2001 (Table 1); talc production was estimated at 1.97 million tons, a decrease of 4.4% from 2001.

China is still the world's largest producer of talc, and other major producers include the United States, India, France, Brazil and Australia. South Korea is the world's largest producer of pyrophyllite , and other important pyrophyllite producers are Japan and Brazil. The production of talc and pyrophyllite in China, Japan, Korea and the United States accounts for 70% of world production. According to the US Regional Bureau of Minerals Yearbook, the production of talc in 2002 was estimated at 3.5 million tons. According to statistics from the Ministry of Land and Resources, China's talc production in 2002 was 2.463 million tons. At present, China's talc production and exports still rank first in the world. In 2002, there were 264 talc mine enterprises in the country, the actual mining capacity was about 3 million t/a, and the ore dressing capacity was nearly 870,000 t/a. China's talc mines are mainly distributed in provinces (regions) such as Guangxi, Shandong, Liaoning, Hubei, Sichuan and Jiangxi, and their total output accounts for more than 95% of the country's total output. Liaoning Haicheng is the world's largest talc production area, with an annual talc production of about 700,000 to 800,000 tons. At present, among China's talc products, talc primary products (including talc ore, coarse talcum powder, fine talcum powder) account for 85% of the total output of national talc products, and deep processing products (including fine superfine powder, modified products, calcined products) only Accounting for 15%, primary products are still the leading products of China's talc. At present, China's talc mining capacity has exceeded market demand, and primary products are seriously over-supplied. For example, paper-grade talc production is greater than market demand, while talc deep-processing products cannot meet the needs of certain talc application departments and need to be imported from abroad.

The United States is the second largest producer of talc in the world. The output in 2002 was estimated to be 775,000 tons, down 10.2% from 2001.

In 2001, the value of talc was $19.6 million (2001: $19.5 million). In 2002, seven mining companies in the United States engaged in the mining of talc minerals in nine mines in five states, all of which were exposed mines. The seven mining companies are Luzenac America, World Minerals (formerly Dal Minerals), Barrett Minerals, Gouverneur talc, and Milwhite. Ltd., Suzorite Minerals Co., Ltd. and South Oregon Block Talc. The five states that mine talc minerals are Montana, Texas, Vermont, New York, and Oregon, with the top four states accounting for 99% of total US talc production. The main companies engaged in talc production in the United States are: Ruznaco, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto, which is the largest talc producer in the United States, and other high-follino talc companies owned by RT Vanderbilt. , WBB minerals under the joint technology and a subsidiary of clay - Barrett minerals company. RT Van der Peck's subsidiary, Standard Minerals, is the largest manufacturer of pyrophyllite in the United States.

In 2002, the output of Korean talc minerals was 1.145 million tons, ranking the second in the world. However, its products are mainly pyrophyllite, and the output of talc is very small, only 38,000 tons.

India is also a major producer of talc-like ore in the world. In 2002, the output of talc-type minerals was 570,000 tons, an increase of 4.4% over 2001; the output of talc was 465,000 tons. Europe is the region with the largest number of talc-producing countries in the world, and about a dozen countries are engaged in the production of talc.

The world's largest talc production companies are three, they are Luzenac Group, Omya Group and IMI FabiSpA.

Luzenac Group is the world's largest talc production company, owned by Rio Tinto Public Company, consisting of 30 mining companies and processing plants located around the world. Most of its talc capacity is located in Europe, mainly in the Trimouns and Luzenac processing plants in France. In addition, the United States and Western Australia are also important production areas.

The Omya Group's annual talc production capacity is 725,000 tons, with major production capacities in the Netherlands, Norway and Finland. IMI Fabi SpA is headquartered in Milan, Italy, with an estimated annual capacity of 100,000 tons. It is a joint venture partner of Unimin Talc Pty Ltd. in Western Australia. The company also has processing plants in West Virginia and New York.
