BMW will recall nearly 1,000 diesel BMW X5s in the United States

BMW will recall nearly 1,000 diesel BMW X5s in the United States Germany's BMW Motors has announced that the company will recall about 1,000 diesel engine versions of the BMW X5 in the US market to replace defective automobile parts in these models. This defect may lead to out-of-control power steering.

BMW Motors stated that the recall involved only the BMW X5 xDrive35d, a 2012 pollution-free diesel version. Other gasoline engine models are not included in this recall. The recalled models were produced from March 31 to May 19, 2011.

It is understood that the belt tensioners in the recalled vehicle power steering devices have welding defects. If the welding points break, the belt will loosen and cause the steering system to lose auxiliary power, which will increase the risk of crashes.

It is understood that this batch of recalled models are all produced at BMW's plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
