The first “landmark” of the bus lane began to solicit opinions from September 2, 2014. According to the "Special Bus Lane Setting", only 6 of the 120 bus lanes currently deployed have formed corridors continuously.


In the future, this pattern of squadrons will be improved. The city will build a network of bus lanes in the central city, and even two-way two-lane roads are expected to be dedicated. By 2017, the bus lanes in Beijing will reach 480 kilometers, and the proportion of public transportation in the central city will reach 52%.


More than 30% of urban roads should have dedicated roads


According to the Beijing Municipal Traffic Commission, the new standard stipulates the setting principles, setting conditions, setting methods and installation of related equipment for bus lanes.


According to the proportion of all grades of roads in Beijing: highways and expressways account for 16.5%, trunk roads account for 12%, and urban roads below trunk roads account for 71.5%. The threshold value of bus operation speed for bus lanes at all levels should be: 40 km/h for expressway and urban expressway, and 20 km/h for main road. About 20% of expressways and urban expressways should be dedicated to roads, and other urban roads should be more than 30%.


The dedicated road is equipped with an electronic eye every four or five hundred meters.


Three special lanes are involved in the new regulations. These include peak hours, long periods and full-time bus lanes. Long periods are periods in which large traffic flows occur during the day. The settings of these dedicated lanes are still divided into two types: the outside and the inside of the road. There is also a kind of guide lane called bus. It refers to the lane from the starting point of the road entrance road to the stop line of the intersection for the use of buses only, and the social vehicles (except some special vehicles) are forbidden to use.


In order to reduce the illegal use of bus lanes by social vehicles, the bus lanes will be equipped with electronic eyes. Fixed data illegal forensics equipment will be installed on the road every 400 to 500 meters. Similar equipment should be installed on the bus.


6% of the road sections meet the conditions of the entire line of planning


According to the grade, the new regulations divide the grades of special roads into three categories: “should”, “fit” and “may”. When 60% of the roads on the road meet the planning conditions, the entire road should be routed.


The more congested places, the more special roads are to be planned. For the first time, the city has made clear that two-way two-lane roads can meet the planning conditions, and when there are other alternative roads for social vehicles, one-way or two-way bus lanes can be planned. This means that some narrow roads in the old town will have dedicated lanes.


At the same time, new roads, reconstruction and expansion roads will also directly map bus lanes with reference to forecast passenger flow data. The previous old standard only considered how the current situation road was planned.


In addition, some related equipment for bus lanes will be installed simultaneously. For example, a bus priority signal control device should be installed at the intersection.
