Allison Automatic Transmission Reduces Vehicle Maintenance Costs for Geelong Transportation

The Malec Brothers Transportation Group operates 35 general cargo trucks and log trucks. These medium-sized cargo trucks were equipped with manual gearboxes, and the high maintenance costs of the driveline caused the fleet to suffer. After detailed investigation, the company eventually purchased the Fuso Fighter 1024 truck equipped with Allison transmission to replace the ordinary freight trucks previously operating in and around Geelong.

Geelong is close to Corio Bay, 75 kilometers from Melbourne and has a population of nearly 250,000. It is the second largest city in Victoria. In mid-2013, the first Fuso Fighter truck joined the Malec Brothers fleet. So far, 13 trucks equipped with Allison transmissions have operated economically and reliably between Geelong and Melbourne and other downtown areas.

Matthew Malec, CEO of Malec Brothers Transportation Group, said: "As the cost of maintenance of clutches and transmission systems has increased dramatically, the company has been under tremendous budgetary pressure. We believe that choosing an automatic transmission will be a viable solution."

The Malec Brothers Transportation Group plans to reduce maintenance costs by 50%. Based on the reliability and expected life expectancy of trucks equipped with Allison transmissions, this goal should be achieved as scheduled.

In addition, the use of automatic transmissions not only reduces maintenance costs, but also increases the space for hiring drivers. Recruitment in the transportation industry is extremely challenging. In addition to satisfying the needs of drivers, it is also very difficult to find skilled drivers who can operate the manual truck properly.

For the assembly of Allison automatic transmissions for logistics trucks, the driver experience is not demanding and the company is able to roll out recruitment networks. As there is no need to master manual shifts and step on clutches, vehicle training is also easier.

Matthew Malec continued: "The new and old drivers of the team are all interested in driving the Fuso automatic truck. Especially when the vehicles pass through the increasingly congested streets of Geelong and Melbourne, their work becomes simple."

The FusoFighter automatic truck operated by Malec Brothers Transportation Group adopts a side curtain carriage design, equipped with a Fuso 7.5-liter 6-cylinder direct injection turbo diesel engine and Allison 2500 5-speed automatic transmission
