Ethanol is used in the chemical and industrial fields, including the manufacture of paints, paints, inks and pharmaceuticals. After the necessary approval process, Celanese plans to build 1 to 2 production facilities in China to produce industrial ethanol to serve the fast-growing Asian market. The initial annual output of each facility is expected to reach approximately 400,000 tons. The company expects to start production within 30 months after the project is approved. At present, the annual demand for chemical ethanol in the Chinese market is estimated to be about 3 million tons, and the annual growth rate is expected to be between 8% and 10%.
The company also plans to build an industrial ethanol production plant with an annual output of about 40,000 tons in the Clear Lake plant in Texas, USA, for internal use or commercial use.
In 2009, Celanese’s net sales revenue reached US$5.1 billion, of which approximately 73% came from outside North America.

On November 10, Celanis (CE.NYSE), a chemical technology and specialty materials company, announced that it plans to build production facilities in China and the United States and use newly developed advanced technologies to produce chemical and other industrial ethanol. This process technology is based on Celanese's industry-leading acetyl technology platform and combines new technologies to produce ethanol from base hydrocarbons.
