Natural sulfur (Sulphur)

[Chemical composition] The ingredients are generally not pure. Natural sulfur formed by volcanic jets often contains small amounts of Se, As, Te, and Tl. The product deposited as a biochemical action is mixed with mud, organic matter, asphalt and the like.

[Crystal structure] orthorhombic system; a ₀ = 1.044 nm, b ₀ = 1.285 nm, c ₀ = 2.437 nm; Z = 16. The crystal structure is a molecular type: 8 S forms a sulfur molecule by a covalent bond, and the atoms are alternately arranged in a ring shape on both planes (Fig. Z-3(a)).

[Form] The crystal form is often biconical or thick (Fig. Z-3(b)). It is usually produced in the form of aggregates such as massive, granular, earthy, spherical, powdery, and stalactite (Fig. Z-4).
