Kaolin is generally a white dense block with kaolin minerals as the main component. If mixed with feldspar , quartz, etc., there is a rough feeling. It is also often caused by inclusion of impurities such as iron sulfide or iron hydroxide to reduce the quality of the product. With the exploitation of low grade deposits, which process comprises: crushing → grinding → flotation (separator) and concentrated → → → bleaching → fractionation dried. Kaolin can be used as a ceramic, refractory bricks, printing art paper, bond paper, synthetic rubber wire or the like material.

There are many associated mineral impurities in kaolin deposits, and the state and quantity of iron are prominent problems in the exploitation and utilization of kaolin deposits. Even if the iron content is very low, it may not meet the requirements. Generally, it can be removed by flotation, but it is difficult to remove when it contains amorphous or nearly amorphous particulate iron hydroxide.

For kaolin flotation, dodecylamine, triethanolamine, pyridine or the like can be used as a collector , and sodium lignosulfonate or calcium is used as a regulator. The pH value of the medium has a great influence. In acidic medium ( pH less than 3 ), the grade of kaolin can reach more than 80% , and the recovery rate can reach 60%~68% .

Super fine particles flotation may be employed, the purpose of classifying fine particles that are difficult to foam flotation process, i.e. using a carrier mineral less than 44 μ m, so that the buoyant mineral particles attached to the carrier, with the foam product separation . The carrier mineral may be calcite , barite , sulfur or the like. There is no special agent for ultra-fine flotation. Generally, the same flotation agent is used to remove impurities in the ore, and water glass is used as a dispersing agent to improve the sorting effect.
