China's coal-based natural gas methanation technology, with its completely independent intellectual property rights, has achieved major breakthroughs and reached the world's leading level. On December 25th, the coal-to-gas methanation pilot test technology developed by Southwest Chemical Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd. and China Offshore Oil & Gas Group was identified in Beijing by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. According to reports, as of the end of November, China's four coal-fired natural gas projects that have been driven and under construction have all been imported with foreign methanation technology. The localization of coal-to-natural gas technology is imminent. Hu Qianlin, deputy secretary-general of the China Petrochemical Federation, proposed that through the joint efforts of the government, enterprises, and the financial community, the industrialization of the technological achievements should be realized as soon as possible, the coal resources should be cleaned and used efficiently, the situation of overcapacity of coal should be eased, and the supply of natural gas should be increased. According to experts, the technology has three major advantages: First, the low-cycle ratio methanation process, the cycle is 20% to 50% lower compared with similar technologies at home and abroad, reduces the energy consumption per unit of product, and reduces the investment in equipment; second, it is a high-performance methanation catalyst. The catalyst has low starting temperature, less side reactions, high heat-resistant temperature, strong resistance to carbon deposition, and good stability. Third, the use of this technology can produce high-quality, low-cost synthetic natural gas.

The assessment results of this technology show that the total conversion of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide is greater than 98.5%, the selectivity of methanation is greater than 99.9%, the methane content of the product is greater than 97%, the concentration of carbon dioxide is less than 1.0%, and the hydrogen concentration is less than 2%.

It is understood that on the basis of the small-scale study of the Southwest Academy, Southwest China University and China Shipping Oil & Gas Group jointly developed coal gas methanation technology and catalysts in 2009 and completed a 350m3/h coal-based natural gas methanation test; At present, the largest domestic 2,000-m3/h coal-to-gas natural gas methanation process has undergone a 1200-hour pilot test, passed 72 hours full-load continuous operation assessment, completed 4,000 hours of methanation catalyst life testing, and built a catalyst industrial production facility to industrial The raw materials produced a qualified catalyst product. At present, the methanation technology has applied for 27 invention patents and has obtained 12 authorizations.
